Indian Institute of Architects West Bengal Chapter

About IIA WB Chapter

The West Bengal Chapter of IIA has its roots as The Eastern Chapter of IIA in the late seventies and transformed into The West Bengal Chapter in the late eighties. The Chapter has seen 18 Chairmen over the years, many Chapter Conventions and has hosted 2 IIA National Conventions. We have been awarded the Best Chapter Award three times so far and have been close runners-up twice too.

Our Events

The Chapter hosts an annual Chapter Convention and has won the bid to host the IIA National Convention this year on 18th and 19th December 2015. Besides the annual convention regular gatherings and events are held such as celebration of Teachers' Day, World Architecture Day, Environment Day, IIA Foundation Day, Fellowship dinners and General Body Meetings..

Our Premises

West Bengal Chapter is the only Chapter in the country to own a premises and the construction of the building on its premises is progressing at a steady pace. The land for this was acquired in the year 1996 and there are many member architects who have contributed towards this dream becoming a reality. This building will soon become fully functional and operational. The premises will also be acting as the SAARCH Headquarters and this indeed is a recognition that the chapter is proud of.

Newsletter

A bi-monthly newsletter is circulated to appraise our fraternity of our latest activities. Archives of this newsletter will help trace our history.

Our Members

The Chapter has a membership strength of over 500 and has played a role in the creation of the Assam Centre. The Assam centre has recently acquired the distinction of a stand-alone chapter. The architects of The West Bengal Chapter have been active participants at the national level in IIA as well at the international level in SAARCH, ARCASIA and UIA.

Our Activities

The Chapter actively addresses the professional interests of the fraternity in West Bengal while being a social community of the local architects. We have also launched need-based merit scholarships for students pursuing the study of architecture in West Bengal. We host regular interactions with personalities relevant to our profession.
