About IIA WB Chapter

Our chapter traces its origin to its formation as The Eastern Regional Chapter in the late 1960s under the leadership of Ar.Rustom Pastakia who was the Chief Government architect and was also the first Chairman of the Eastern Regional Chapter. This formation transformed into The West Bengal Chapter affiliated to The Indian Institute of Architects in the late 1970s. Our Chapter has since seen eighteen Chairmen with the first one being Ar. Rustom Pastakia. A historic moment in the history of our Chapter was when Ar.Utpal Kr. Basu took on the cause of architects registered with the Council of Architecture and won a case in the High Court after a four-year struggle. A copy of the judgement is available here.

Our chapter had successfully organized more than 12 national conventions over these years. List of these conventions are available here.

Our chapter has a membership strength of over 500 and growing more.
